The nearby Slieve Bloom Mountains are internationally acclaimed by hill-walking enthusiasts, where organised walks (either guided or unguided) can be organised on request. Horse-riding is also a popular pursuit, and the local hunt often begins at Racket Hall.
Angling is available on the local River Brosna and at the nearby Laois Angling Centre where two well-stocked lakes provide you with endless hours of enjoyment.

You can also see the many local castles in Ballaghmore, Birr, and Leap Castle. Dominating the heart of Roscrea town is the 13th century Norman Castle, which also houses an impressive heritage centre.
